We created Take Cover to make your shelter experience better.

The story of our company is a story of deep commitment to a calm shelter experience. We use the best materials and methods to create the best covers.

A note from Joel, the guy who started this shelter cover thing.

We started Take Cover with one simple idea: Everyone deserves to feel safe and secure in their shelter. There’s no need for stress or hesitation to use your shelter in a weather emergency.

For years, we tested materials and sewing techniques to create the best quality covers. We were determined to create rugged, breathable covers that would last a lifetime. We’re thrilled to share our innovative covers, which ultimately help protect your family!

Our Shelter Cover Story

This company was founded by Joel Schuster, a former Navy pilot and lifelong resident of the American midwest. He’s been a hard worker since childhood; and was raised in the tornado capital of our country. One of his dreams was always to make the tornado shelter experience more calm and peaceful—eliminate the dangers of mice, mold, insects and other debris in the shelter.
In 2025, after working on prototypes for over four years, Joel finally found the perfect combination of shelter materials to make the shelter cover rugged, durable, and breathable—with the perfect screen to keep debris out. We are so proud of what we built, and we are excited to share it with families living in tornado prone America.
